‘Veer’ is not jingoistic nor was ‘Gadar’: Anil Sharma
Sharma agrees that films like 'The Hero' (2003) and 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo' (2004) were patriotic stories. "But, terming them as jingoistic is taking things a little too far," Sharma told PTI in an interview. The filmmaker, who last directed Dharmendra and Sunny Deol in 'Apne' in 2007, does not understand why 'Gadar' continues to be held in negative light despite its huge success at the box office."I am perplexed that 'Gadar', in spite of being one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian cinema, has seen continued panning by media for being jingoistic. I am sure audiences didn't feel the same because otherwise it wouldn't have been considered as one of the 3-4 major films that have come out from India in last 50 odd years," said Sharma. The film, a story between a Sikh and a Muslim set during the partition of India, was singled out for negative sentiments that it allegedly invoked against Muslims and Pakistan. In fact, this was cited as one of the major reasons for the film's blockbuster run.'Veer', which released today, is also an love story set in the era of 1890s but Sharma said he not painted anyone in negative light. "I never thought about this entire 'let's paint them as positive or negative' business, whether it comes to Hindus, Muslims or British. 'Veer' is an epic love story of a warrior set in pre-independence era and one should see the film for that more than anything else," said Sharma. The film, whose idea was first conceived by Salman Khan 20 years ago, is about a Pindari soldier, who is torn between love and duty."Relationship, love and togetherness is what binds 'Veer' together. It is a family story where a father and a son come together, two brothers come together and a man and a woman fall in love with each other," said Sharma."There is action as well because it is required to support the screenplay which is drafted on the thread of a love story. However, it would be wrong to call 'Veer' as an action movie, just like it was in case of 'Apne'."Even though 'Gadar' stays on to be his biggest money spinner ever and 'Veer' too boasts of an epic look and feel to it, Anil Sharma denies that working on this Salman Khan starrer was akin to getting into a 'comfort zone'."I started off my career with such beautiful and sensitive films like 'Shradhanjali' (1981) and 'Bandhan Kachchey Dhagon Ka' (1983). I agree that there is a certain image of my own that has stuck to me, courtesy films like 'Hukumat' (1987), 'Elaan E Jung' (1989) and 'Tahakla' (1992) which released over the years."But, you never know, I may end up doing something entirely different for my next film after 'Veer'," he said.Asin describes the Khans as focused, cool and charming
The Southern beauty started her career in Hindi film industry with Aamir Khan starrer blockbuster 'Ghajini' in 2008 and went on to work with Salman Khan in her second film 'London Dreams Last year. When asked to pick out adjectives to describe the three Khans, Asin said, "Aamir is very focused, Salman has a cool attitude and Shah Rukh, from what I have seen of him, seems to be very charming."The 24-year-old actress was in the capital recently to announce the 55th Filmfare Awards to be held on February 27 this year.Asin has already bagged three filmfare awards - the first one in 2003 for being the Best Telugu Actress, second was the South Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in Tamil film, 'Ghajini' and the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for the Hindi remake of the film."I hope to be nominated this year too, but my favourite film for this year's awards would be '3 Idiots'," said Asin, adding that the film was an "obvious choice" since it has been appreciated by all.Even though she stepped into the film industry as a teenager, Asin, who hails from Kerala, never dreamt of becoming an actress in her childhood. "It might sound like a cliche, but becoming an actress was never my ambition. I would have probably gone into academics like my parents. I am the black sheep in my family as no one else has any connection with films," said Asin.Having said that, the Southern beauty, who has been a prominent face in Tamil and Telegu films for years now, does not regret her choice."Back then, I was too young to think about what I was doing, but now, I am happy with my profession," she said.Asin has been often compared to another Southern beauty who has made it big in Bollywood, Sreedevi. When asked about the comparison, the actress said, "She is a great actress and is very close to me as we are neighbours. But I would like to make a name and place for myself in films."The actress might be a newcomer in Bollywood, but is not jumping at every offer and taking it slow and steady in terms of film projects."I'm taking up select films which excite me, which is why I do not have a number of releases one after another. I have some films in hand now but none of them have gone on floors yet so I cannot reveal anything about them," said Asin. She is also one star who belives in staying fit and positive but has no faith in the concept of size zero."Do I look like I could believe in size zero? To each his own, but I like to stay healthy and I think confidence, positivity and a good diet can achieve that," Asin said.Actress Navya Nair ties knot

The love and blessings of the people helped me become a star," she told reporters after the marriage, attended by a large number of people from different walks of life.Navya shot to fame with her role as a maidservant in a rich Nair family in her first film 'Nandanam'. Case in point: the Vera Wang frock that actress Michelle Williams rocked at the 2006 Oscars when she was nominated for her role in "Brokeback Mountain."
The old Hollywood-inspired gown and its risky untraditional yellow hue definitely signaled to the fashion world that Williams had officially arrived.
Perhaps "Inglorious Basterds" star Diane Kruger thought it wise to take a page out of Williams' style book for her own red carpet appearance (and nomination for outstanding performance by a cast) at last night's 2010 SAG Awards.
While Kruger's Jason Wu gown had an asymmetrical neckline and Williams' featured a deep-V, both dresses share long glamorous trains and twisted fabric detailing. Both leading ladies even rocked a similar beauty plan -- gently pulled back blonde tresses paired with scarlet red lips.
