The 80s in Bollywood, were all about youth and coming of age. With Rajiv Gandhi as the Prime Minster, the fresh winds of youth dynamism came in and loosening of restrictions on foreign currency, travel and foreign investment and imports. This lead to expansion of Bollywood’s reach. Television and video dominated the entertainment world. A profusion of masala films offering great music and entertainment got counterbalanced by a more healthy dose of realistic ‘middle’ cinema.
